Canadian National Race Report

ZZ Hobby

This race was held in Hamilton Ontario 1/8 scale club. On Saturday morning, I spent more time to set up my 1/8 scale with GQ tire (35 shore all around) and new Ninja engine.  I felt my car with a lot of punch and less traction, and then I tried to change all shock oil and spring to be softer since the track was so bumpy at corner 6.  I had to change my new set of tire and true down to 79mm rear and 65mm front, and ride height was 7mm front and 7mm rear.

Qualify in 1/8:

I got a few problems in the beginning. First, I had two speed problems, then I had to adjust it again. Second, during the qualify, I had a problem in my receiver in the mid of straight.  Finally, I got 7th in A main before the final. But I was sure I could go faster with my set up.

I arrived at around 7:00am and tried to re-build my 710 and 960. Unfortunately, not enough time to re-build both, I only had time for 960 only.  Since I had bad luck in my 960 on Saturday, I must re-build it again. I tried different fuel to my new Ninja motor, it seemed to be pretty fast than Saturday qualify.  The traction was so bad due to the rain on Saturday night so I had to change my set-up again. Due to the extra time that I wasted on re-setup, I couldn't get the good lap time in the last qualify.

Final 1/8:

I started at the 7th position, and caught up easily to the third position in the first two minutes.  I was using GQ Tire (37 shore all around). They were so gripped.  Howard and Ted Hammer were so crazily fast in the final.  I could only keep at the 3rd position until my set screw came lose. Unfortunately, I did not finished the race.  Hope the next race will be better.

1/10 Qualify:

On Saturday morning, my car seemed to be pretty good since I already did setup my car during the last two weeks at Hamilton track.  The major changes of the setup would be the changes of tires, the shores and the diameters. I setup different shore of tires at different periods during the day.  The gear ratio and the car setting were setup perfectly for the track so I didn't have to worry about it. On the other hand, engine would be one of the issues that I would be worried about.  I chose Novarossi LS3 for the first qualify but it ran out of the gas.  Then I tried the Max power engine for the 2nd and the 3rd qualify due to the fuel economy was better. Therefore, I kept the Novarossi LS3 for the final.

On Sunday morning, everybody was preparing for the last qualify setup.  The traction changed a lot due to the rain on Saturday night. I changed my setting for the 1/8 and of course my 1/10 as well. I changed a lot in my setting (the shocks and the sway bar). My tires remained unchanged as what I used for Saturday qualify.  In the last qualify, my car ran out of gas again.  Fortunately, nobody could beat my TQ (top qualify) on Sunday morning.  But most fast racers like Howard, Francis, Steve and Keith, were faster than the time on Saturday qualify.

Final

It was the worst starting for everyone on the final. Nobody could hear the beep except a voice saying GO! GO! GO!Since I was unprepared for the start, my engine went stalled. I had to re-start my engine and I was a lap behind the other racers.  I tried to catch up with the others. Thanks to my pit man, Tim Kwok.  He was really fast so that I could catch up even faster. After the first 10 minutes, I was already standing in the 2nd position behind Francis Lee.  Actually if Howard Cho didn't strip the gear, I could not catch up as the 2nd position. 15 minutes after the race, I was leading in the first position but I had to slow down a bit just to save my tires.  Finally, I won the race. Then I double checked my tires, only 2 mm were worn in 30 minutes race.

Thanks to all my sponsors to give me excellent products like GQ Tire, Tornado Fuel, Ninja Engine, Blitz Body, SIR products and Team Titan products.
